Likeness, 2012

Likeness, 2012
This is a performance-based installation where I photographed and exhibited these photographs in the Nancy Lincoln Gallery, Chestnut Hill, MA  The camera is watching the subject (in this case myself) is performing. In each picture the camera is pointing outward to make the picture of the other, all played by me. I play particular roles and I compose myself in the context of others.  I perform the American in my daily life, the Indian in my family, and the English in my subconscious.  The English persona acts as an alter ego and allowing me to play an imaginary character.  I think about the transient identities we all wear.   In this series I also include the two ID photographs that I did not author: one that identifies me as an Indian from India when I first entered the United States: and the other is a current picture from my American Passport.
